Is there more to life than this? Is that a question you’ve ever asked? If so, there is an excellent opportunity for you to explore that and other similar questions in an informal and friendly atmosphere over the next few weeks as Martin’s Memorial run another Alpha Course.
At the start of a New Year we often have time to ponder and reflect on where we’re at and what our lives have been like. In the midst of such reflections there are times when issues of faith and belief will come to mind. It can then be helpful if we have someone or somewhere to go to explore such thoughts or questions. This is exactly what the Alpha Course is all about.
It is a series of interactive sessions that freely explore the basic truths of the Christian faith. No pressure.
No follow up. No charge. Alpha really is for anyone who’s curious. The talks are designed to encourage debate and explore the basics of the Christian faith in a friendly, honest, and informal environment.
Each evening begins with an informal chat and catch up over tea and coffee before listening to the teaching that then leads into informal discussion. No-one has to say anything, although the opportunity is given to contribute any thoughts or questions you have.
The course which Martins have ran for the last seven years, has a growing worldwide appeal. Alpha currently runs in 169 countries and in 112 languages.
Well over 3 million people in the UK and 22 million worldwide have now attended an Alpha course. 9,300 Alpha Courses were run in the UK in 2012 at which 299,000 people attended. Such has been the success of Alpha that national and international press are taking note of it’s impact.
“What distinguishes Alpha from other initiatives is the easy-going, relaxed feel of the proceedings - that, and its astonishing success.” The Times, London
What Alpha offers, and what is attracting thousands of people, is permission, rare in secular culture, to discuss the big questions - life and death and their meaning.” The Guardian, London
“Many claim Alpha has changed their lives and appear genuinely happier for the experience.” Time Magazine
So who is the Alpha Course for? People who may be intrigued or interested in finding out more about the Christian faith; people who are new to the church and keen to meet new people; people who have been part of the church for a long time, and who want to grow more in their faith; people who have questions about life and faith and would be keen to explore such questions with others in an informal manner.
The Alpha Course is for anyone, at any age, and whatever stage of life they may be at. It could be for you?
The Alpha Course will be held in Martin’s Memorial Church (opposite An Lanntair on Kenneth Street) on Monday evenings from 6.30-8.00pm starting on Monday 13th January for 6 weeks. If you have any questions about the course or would like to sign up for it please contact Stephen MacDonald on 07570804193. The organizers of the course assure everyone that a warm welcome awaits you!
