There are now only six weeks to go until the closing date of FilmG, MG ALBA’s Gaelic short film competition, but that’s still plenty of time to make a short film according to competition organisers.

This year FilmG are expecting to receive more films than ever, especially as new awards have been added to the competition. They include prizes for the Best Mobile Short and Best Script in the Youth category, as well as Best Mobile Short, Best Script, Best Animation and Best Comedy in the Open category.

Competition organisers were particularly keen to encourage more people to use their mobile phones to to generate Gaelic content, particularly teenagers.

Floraidh Forrest, FilmG Project Manager said: “More and more people use smart phones in their daily lives to take photos and videos and post to on social media, we want to encourage teenagers in particular to make digital content in Gaelic.

“We need to try and engage with this younger generation and connect with them using the tools that they use, hopefully the £500 prize will be the incentive they need!”

Another important new entry to this year’s competition are the awards for the script prize. MG ALBA are keen to encourage a new generation of writers and see FilmG as a vehicle for doing this. Director of Development and Partnership at MG ALBA,

Iseabail Mactaggart said: “Writing is at the heart of all good programming and we need to make sure that we are both uncovering and developing new writing talent to help secure the future of Gaelic broadcasting.

“We are looking for creativity, good storytelling skills and for participants to be as inventive as possible.”

To enter the competition all you need to do is either write a script in Gaelic, up to ten minutes in length or submit a Gaelic film, one to five minutes in length in the Youth category, and one to ten minutes in the Open category.

The closing date for entries is the 16 December 2015 and you can submit your entry via the FilmG website here
