A charity set up to support young people with Cystic Fibrosis and their families will mark its fifth anniversary with the launch of a fundraising campaign.

The Leanne Fund is calling on supporters to host a tea party with family, friends, neighbours or work colleagues and raise a minimum of £5 to represent the number of years it has been supporting people with the condition.

Your ‘Tea Party’ can be held at any time throughout the month of February.

The Leanne Fund will themselves host ‘Leanne’s Tea Party’ on Saturday, February 7th in Martin’s Memorial Church hall from 2 to 4pm and all are welcome.

The Leanne Fund has helped scores of individuals and families throughout the Highlands and Western Isles since it was established in 2010 in memory of Leanne Mitchell.

The charity which is run solely by volunteers provides a range of unique services for people with Cystic Fibrosis and their loved ones including special treats and experiences, sport and fitness equipment, complementary therapies, counselling, crisis grants, tv cards for adult in-patients and patient transport costs.

Chrisetta Mitchell of The Leanne Fund, said: “Since setting up five years ago, we have been blessed by the number of individuals and organisations across the entire region who have fundraised on our behalf.

“From individual donations to epic undertakings, the events and fund-raising activities which have taken place range from fun runs, walks and marathons, sponsored slims, motorbike rides and online auctions to an incredible 100 mile walk, a 24 hour Inter Island Challenge, a gruelling climb of Kilimanjaro, a cycle from Land’s End to John O’Groats and the Three Peaks Challenge among others.

“Yet from the small to the large, all have been completed as a tribute to Leanne and others, who like her, have tragically been lost to CF. We have formed close friendships over that time too, and it has been wonderful to see the support that exists for the work that we do.

“The fact so many people are signing up to celebrate the achievements of The Leanne Fund is fantastic. We feel very privileged to have been able to help so many young people in such a positive way and we look forward to the next five years and beyond.”

“We, like every charity, are reliant on donations but whereas other fundraising drives can be quite demanding, our £5 challenge is attainable for all.”
