Tong Primary School rounded off the term with a pair of fundraising events which handed two local charities a welcome cash boost.
On Friday, September 25, pupils, parents and members of the community packed into Tong Community Hall for Tong School’s Macmillan Coffee Morning which doubled up as a Big Action Eco Day. Teas, coffees and cakes were served, and various different stalls were also run by the children.
Each child, from nursery to Primary 7 had made a Fairtrade item for selling, as part of the school’s Eco Big Action Day. All proceeds went to the local Macmillan charity.
Tong Primary School have proudly confirmed they raised a fantastic £1202.20 for Macmillan Cancer Support.
Hannah Rough, Primary 1 and Faith Macfarlane, Primary 7 presented the cheque to Mrs Macleod and Mrs Buchanan from our local Macmillan Committee, before the end of term.
The second event hosted by the school saw them welcome Iain Macphee, Salvation Army and Rev. Calum Iain Macleod in to school on Wednesday, October 7, for their annual Harvest Assembly.
Family and friends also joined us for the occasion. All children were invited to bring in food items for placing on our Harvest table.
Iain Macphee very gratefully accepted these on behalf of Salvation Army, and explained to the children that the donations would go towards the Salvation Army Food Bank.
The school expressed its thanks to all who supported the two worthwhile events.
