A day of activities at a local primary school paid dividends for a global appeal for funds.
In the wake of the devastating Nepal earthquake and aftershocks, a UNICEF Day for Change held at Torphichen Primary School has contributed £256 to the relief effort.
Marnie Ferguson, P4/5 teacher at the school, said: ‘‘When you hear of other schools raising over £2000, you think that our total is not great but, for a wee school with just 87 pupils, I think its not bad.
‘‘Everyone at the school is very pleased, both with the total raised and the success of the UNICEF Day for Change’’.
The whole school event held on Friday of last week was organised by four school groups, the eco committee, the rights respecting committee, the pupil council and the global citizenship committee.
The cash raised was boosted by a silent auction for giant artwork created by pupils who attend the after-hours arts and crafts group.
Friday’s activities including storytelling, windmill making, arts and crafts and a book stall.
