Transient Stanza - VIDEO

An architecture student from Tolsta has built a temporary structure at the Butt of Lewis Lighthouse with the help of fellow students.

As part of the ‘Collective Solitude’ project which is centred on the uninhabited Island of Rona, Ruairidh Campbell Moir, and a team of students from the Strathclyde School of Architecture and the Mackintosh School of Architecture, travelled to Ness to build the structure.

Described as a ‘Transient Stanza’ it is intended to be “a catalyst for the cultural illumination of forgotten places” - to stimulate discussion on areas that have fallen out of consciousness.

For more on the project see this week’s Stornoway Gazette, out now.
