Try out an Alternative Christmas Carol

‘Ringle Bells, Ringle Bells, Ringle all the way’– and that’s all the way to the Alternative Christmas Carol 2015 for popular Lewis music-makers The Dun Ringles.

The brainchild of Lewis singer/songwriter Colin Macleod and first staged last year, An Alternative Christmas Carol presents a night of original music and festival covers – along with mulled wine and mince-pies – on Friday, December 11th, at the Woodlands Centre, Lews Castle Grounds, Stornoway.

It’s a chance to see the hugely entertaining ‘house band’ The Dun Ringles, who, alongside a plethora of local talent, will be joined not by old St Nicolas, but young Saint Raymond – the Nottingham born rising star set to headline this year’s unconventional festive celebrations.

“We are very happy to have An Alternative Christmas Carol returning for another year and really excited to have St. Raymond coming to play,” said organiser Colin.

“He’s such a great talent and it’s great he’s taken time out to come and play with us.”

Bursting onto the UK music scene in 2013, Saint Raymond has most recently returned from touring in support on Ed Sheeran’s European tour.

With a push in the beginning from the BBC Introducing Stage at the Reading and Leeds festival in 2013, Saint Raymond then headlined his own UK and Ireland tour, before taking up support slot for Californian band Haim’s sold out UK and European tour in December that year.

His second EP ‘Young Blood’ heralded in 2014 – the title track from which was named ‘Hottest Record in the World’ by BBC DJ Zane Lowe – and the young musician’s success has continued into 2015 with the release of debut album ‘Young Blood’ in July; a record which reached No.7 in the official midweek charts and reached No.15 on iTunes chart on pre-orders alone.

Set to bring An Alternative Christmas Carol to a rousing finale, Saint Raymond tops an impressive local talent base as featuring in this year’s event will also be Eleanor Nicolson, Callum MacLeod, Neosa, and Jane Hepburn.

“I’m also very excited for our local acts who have agreed to join us,” continued Colin. “We’ll have Eleanor Nicolson, Neosa, Jane Hepburn doing a solo set, and returning for a second year – I suppose that makes them the house band – The Dun Ringles!”

He added: “We’ll have mulled wine and mince pies available on the night to get everyone in the mood. Christmas attire optional!”

Set to be one Christmas celebration not to be missed, An Alternative Christmas Carol opens at 8pm on Friday, December 11th, Woodlands Centre, Lews Castle Grounds.

Tickets, priced £8, are available from the Woodlands Centre in advance or on the door on the night. Get along and get festive!
