IT may seem like yesterday to many of us but Western Isles Hospital is now more than 20 years old!
The Stornoway Hospital was opened in October 1992 by the Prince of Wales who was given a tour of the new facility and said he was extremely impressed.
At the time the hospital had 212 beds but now has 116.
The future of the island hospital has been the subject of a Clinical Strategy over the last few years which is looking at how best services should be developed and the infrastructure of the hospital modernised.
For more photos of the opening see this week’s Stornoway Gazette, out today (Thursday 7th).
