An app, naming the 500 ultimate running races in the world, includes the South Uist Ben Kenneth Mountain Race.
The app sees the book ‘Ultimate Running Races in the World’ adapted to a digital format, making it accessible to people all over the world.
In total 16 Scottish races are on the app, including the Cape Wrath Challenge in Sutherland and the Simmer Dim Half Marathon on Shetland.
The Ben Kenneth Mountain Race was started in 1970 and was the idea of three locals who believed it would be good to entertain the young men of Uist, with the hope it would them away in from the pub.
From the Cal-Mac Pier the runners have to race to the top of the Ben Kevin, by whatever route they choose, and finish back at the pier. Swimming part of the route is permissible but caution advised.
It takes place on the first Sunday of August every year.
