Unemployment figures fall

Unemployment in Scotland fell by 25,000 in the period June to August 2016, and now stands at 127,000, according to Office for National Statistics (ONS) data released today.

The Scottish unemployment rate is 4.6 per cent, which is below the rate of 4.9 per cent for the whole of the UK.

The labour market statistics also show that employment in Scotland fell by 8,000 over the three months to August 2016. The number of those in employment in Scotland now stands at 2,618,000.

In Stornoway there have recently been two successful ‘Feeding Britain’s Future’ recruitment events.

This involved working together with local employers to support candidates through the employer recruitment process.

A total of 16 candidates attended the events and following it there have been several successful applicants who will be interviewed for positions.
