An emergency landing of an aircraft at Stornoway Airport this evening (Sunday) meant the road was closed between Parkend and Melbost for a time.
A report was received by Stornoway Police of a Twin Engine Cessna with two persons on board travelling from Wick to Iceland having difficulty with one engine. Members of Police Scotland, Scottish Fire North from Stornoway and Shawbost, Stornoway Coastguard, and Scottish Ambulance and RNLI all attended at Stornoway airport to assist members of the HIAL Fire and Rescue team. The plane landed safely without incident approx 1915.
The A866 Stornoway to Point road was closed for a period of time. Police Stornoway would like to thank members of the public for the patience at the time.
The plane landed safely and the road has now re-opened.
