Update on Western Isles Hospital refurbishment

Work to refurbish Clisham Ward in Western Isles Hospital, Stornoway is now complete, and improvement works are set to commence in the Acute Psychiatric Unit (APU) on Monday (July 7th).

The work is part of the Western Isles Hospital building improvement programme which, to date, has included improvement works to Medical Ward 1, Theatre, Radiology, the Day Hospital, the IT Department, Clisham Ward, and corridors on level 2 of the hospital, from Erisort Ward to Medical Ward 2.

In the APU, the improvement plan will involve the replacement of carpets with vinyl floor coverings and redecoration of the ward. This will ensure that the ward is up to the appropriate standards, creating an improved environment for patients.

While the work is underway, APU patients will be temporarily relocated to single rooms in Clisham Ward. A double room in Clisham will be temporarily used as a sitting room for APU patients.

It is anticipated that work will be complete by July 17th, and that patients will return to the unit once the necessary cleaning arrangements are complete.

Access for visits for the refurbishment period will be through the main door of Clisham Ward.
