Update - Sudden Deaths in Gravir

Police in the Western Isles responded to a call in Gravir, South Lochs early this morning (Friday, November 18) where an elderly couple had been found dead near a property in the village.

The names of the deceased have not yet been released by the Police and it is expected that these details will not be available until early next week.

This afternoon at Stornoway Police Station Inspector Roddy Mackay explained that the deaths were being treated as “unexplained” and that Police were now conducting a full enquiry into the circumstances.

Specialist officers will be travelling from the mainland to aid in their enquiries.

There is some local speculation that the deaths may have been related to the sudden snap of cold weather experienced in the Islands.

Inspector Mackay said the Police would be taking all aspects into account during the enquiry.
