VIDEO: Fun and friendship at 50th Reunion

On Friday 4th and Saturday 5th April, a very happy and successful 50th school reunion took place at Stornoway Golf Club.

The ‘babies of ‘64’ gathered in the newly refurbished Stornoway Golf Club, they arrived from all over the globe to enjoy a few hours together to recall memories, eat good food, enjoy each others company and depart following a dance with the sound of music from their school years still ringing in their ears which was played by Catch 22.

On Friday evening 120 attended and were welcomed by the six strong committee, a welcome and thank you speech was eloquently delivered by Susan O’Brien; a few words containing remembrance of those not present and a few memories were captured and delivered to setup the evening by Annie Macdonald; and a good humoured, bilingual, kind, vote of thanks was given by the exceptionally gifted and talented Angus Govig Maclennan.

Tasty food was served by the Golf Club, and a cake was cut by two birthday girls Joan Thornton and Emily Finlayson. Grace was said by Rev Kenny Stewart.

On Saturday evening 120 attended the less formal part of the reunion.

The hog roast was beautifully cooked by Iain Moir and John Horne.

Following on from this a very successful raffle took place and a raffle and a quiz were held to support local charities Stornoway RNLI Lifeboat and Bethesda.

The final part of the evening was a dance with Catch 22 playing the songs which took everyone back to memories of the Back Hall dances; Socials and music from the school, the dance floor was full all evening.

The six strong committee are so grateful for all those who attended this event, and particularly those who travelled such great distances to be together to recall memories, renew friendships and discover new friends.

The committee are also grateful to all local businesses who helped out and particularly to Mr Iain Macdonald of Stornoway Golf Club whose professional, kind and courteous staff ably delivered an outstanding and excellent service in their beautifully newly refurbished lounge.
