Way forward for Gaelic broadcasting and media

The conference is being held on Tuesday, March 15th and is being organised by the department of Celtic and Scottish Studies department at the University.

Attendance is open to any groups or individuals with an interest in the topic.

Speakers at the conference include representatives of campaigning group Gàidhlig-TV, MG ALBA/BBC ALBA and experts from Scotland, Ireland and Wales, Eithne O’Connell from Dublin City University, Professor Elin Haf Gruffydd Jones from Aberystwyth University and Professor Philip Schlesinger from Glasgow University.

Professor Rob Dunbar, from Edinburgh University said: “This is an extremely important time for Gaelic broadcasting and broadcasting in minority languages generally, and it is vital that a wide range of views are heard on the many challenges and issues we face, and that everyone who has an interest in the area has the chance to debate those views.”

The conference will begin with Registration at 0930 and will be formally opened at 1000. It will close at 1630, and is being held at the University of Edinburgh’s Outreach Centre, Holyrood Road.

The Conference Fee is £20 per individual to cover the costs (Concessions £10) and coffee will be served at various points through the day.

Lunch is not being provided but there are a number of suitable catering venues near at hand.

Registration in advance is recommended to secure places and this process will be available in the next day or two.

It is anticipated that demand for places will be high. It is recommended that on-line registration is used to secure a place as soon as possible.
