Western Isles Council welcome launch of new insulation scheme

Following on from the successful uptake of the Home Insulation Scheme in Lewis and Harris, a new Scottish Government funded initiative, the Universal Home Insulation Scheme, has now been finalised and will commence from January until the end of March.

The scheme will offer free loft and/or cavity wall insulation for home extensions, which were not covered through the previous scheme. Comhairle nan Eilean Siar, who are supporting the scheme, urge all householders in Lewis and Harris who feel their homes could be eligible to get in touch with the Inverness-based Home Energy Scotland Hotline which will respond to all calls.

Councillor Norman MacDonald, Chair of Environmental and Protective Services Committee said: “Over 1,800 homes benefited from the excellent Home Insulation Scheme initiative within the last year and I am delighted this scheme will provide free insulation for home extensions.

“Information will also be given on transport advice, home renewables, a free home energy report and also impartial advice to check your eligibility for additional help from the the Scottish Government’s Energy Assistance Package. I would urge householders in Lewis and Harris to contact the number given below without further delay.”

To take advantage of this free offer contact 0800 512 012 (free from land lines). If you wish to receive advice and information about this offer in Gaelic please ask the advisor and they will arrange for a Stornoway-based advisor to call you back at a convenient time.

All households on Lewis and Harris will be contacted in the next few weeks with details of the Universal Home Insulation Scheme to ensure maximum uptake. The firm installing the insulation is Miller Pattison who have been working on the islands for the last year.
