WESTERN Isles Hospital, today opened a groundbreaking new stroke rehabilitation unit containing six stroke rehabilitation beds and employing specially trained staff.
Dr Sheila Scott stated: "The Western Isles Stroke Rehabilitation Unit will bring the service together into the one area. Before, patients could have been in any one of the medical awards in the hospital."
The new section was opened by Professor Martin Dennis, chair of the National Advisory Committee on Stroke which provides advice to the Scottish Executive Heath Department.
Hopes are now high that Western Isles Hospital will be one of the forerunners in telecommunications assessments and become a centre of excellence for stroke care
