Youth conferences planned in islands

The Youth Engagement Team at Comhairle nan Eilean Siar are in the process of planning a series of Youth Conferences throughout the Islands.

These conferences will allow young people to directly engage with decision makers and contribute towards improvements within local services.

A youth consultation has been set up on Survey Monkey and will be live from 30th September to 14th October.

This consultation will be used to plan the youth conferences, gathering young people’s perceptions of how they are included in decision making within the islands and how this can be improved. The findings will be used to identify priorities of young people in the Western Isles in order to plan the activities for the Conference. Findings will also be shared with local decision makers.

Catriona Stewart, Chair of the Education and Children’s Services Committee said: “We value young people’s views which can help shape change within the Western Isles. We anticipate that these conferences will be of great benefit to both the young people and local decision makers and I would encourage as many young people as possible to attend the conferences.”

The Western Isles Youth Engagement Project is funded by the Scottish Government and European Community Leader Innse Gall 2007-2013 programme, Comhairle nan Eilean Siar and Highlands and Islands Enterprise.
