Thousands of holidaymakers face disappointment as Jet2 has announced it is cancelling more of its flights to the Canary Islands.

The news comes after the Foreign Commonwealth Development Office (FDCO) advice on travel to the popular holiday destinations remains unchanged.

Which flights are affected?

Jet2 has confirmed it will be cancelling flights to Tenerife, Gran Canaria, Lanzarote and Fuerteventura until 17 October 2020.

Flights to the Canary Islands were originally due to resume toward the end of September, but the cancellations have been extended in line with government guidance.

Customers who are affected by the cancellations will be contacted by the airline to discuss their options. This includes the opportunity to rebook their holiday with no additional admin fee, a full cash refund, or a refund credit note.

Those who are due to travel to the Canary Islands from 18 October onwards will be provided with an additional update closer to their departure date.

Jet2 has also recently announced cancellations on package holidays to Faro in Portugal until 31 October 2020, after the country was removed from the government’s approved travel list. Other affected destinations include mainland Spain and part of Croatia.

What is the Foreign Office advice?

The FDCO is currently advising against all non-essential travel to Spain, including the Balearic and Canary Islands. This advice is based on the current assessment of coronavirus risks in the country.

Any travellers who do travel to Spain will be required to self-isolate for a period of 14 days on their return to the UK.
