Almost 200 runners support The Leanne Fund 5K

Organised by The Leanne Fund, the popular family event raised over £1,700 which will go towards supporting cystic fibrosis sufferers and their families across the Highlands and Islands.

From the fastest runners who competed the course in no time to those taking a more leisurely pace, the challenge was met by those of all age groups and included some interesting characters like Darth Vader, a speedy witch and even Batman turned out to take part.

Led by The Leanne Fund founders Willie and Chrisetta Mitchell, the runners and walkers enjoyed some lovely sunshine as they made their way around the Bayble course.

Crossing the line first was Donald Mackay in a super quick time of 22 minutes 20 seconds and first female was Point’s own Marina Murray in 23 minutes, 24 seconds.

First under 16 male was Daniel Stewart in 26 minutes followed by Stuart Graham and Connor Graham. First female under 16 was Isla Mackay in 32 minutes and 14 seconds, 2nd was Abbie Stewart and 3rd Bethany Macleod.

The trophies were sponsored by local businesses: Ivor Finlayson (Builders), Stornoway Painters & Decorators, Thai Cafe and The Leanne Fund’s own trophy.

The day’s proceedings were expertly directed by MC Duncan Macleod who donned a full Lochs FC kit for the occasion.

Participants were treated to a hearty feast of delicious soups and home baking after the event in Sgoil an Rubha which was a great finale to a very successful day.

Chrisetta Mitchell from The Leanne Fund said: “The event was a great success and we would like to extend a huge thank you to all who took part and also our volunteers for their support on the day.

“We were delighted that so many people came out to take part and support the work of The Leanne Fund.

“The Leanne Fund is now looking forward to several more events this year with a team taking part in the Baker Hughes 10k in Aberdeen later this month; the Peking to Paris rally; the Dusk2Dawn 50k on Lewis in July and the Stramash music festival in Stornoway in September.”

The Leanne Fund supports Cystic Fibrosis sufferers and their families across the Highlands and Islands of Scotland.

The charity was set up in 2009 in memory of Leanne Mitchell from the Isle of Lewis.

The charity funds special treats and a range of support services for young people affected by Cystic Fibrosis and their families across the region.

Since The Leanne Fund was founded it has continued to expand and develop the range of services and experiences offered in response to the needs of Cystic Fibrosis patients and their families.

The Leanne Fund relies entirely on fundraising, sponsors and charitable donations to fund their valuable work.

The Leanne Fund’s aim is to create happy memories now that can last a lifetime.
