The Western Isles Island Games Association hosted their annual Galson Motors 5K fundraiser recently - click the video attached to see footage of the runners as they set off from the Lews Castle Green.

Run in partnership with Car Hire Hebrides the 5K took runners, walkers and joggers around a scenic trek through the Lews Castle Grounds.

A massive 82 participants braved the wet conditions and pulled on their trainers for the 5k challenge to raise funds to help our local talented athletes to attend the elite level competitions that the Island Games offers.

The two category winners were Michael Macmillan (first male runner) in 18:04; and Marina Murray (first female runner) in 20:23.

Both crossed the line in blistering race times but there were a host of runners to come home sub-20.

WIIGA would like to thank the following individuals: John Emberson, Lesley Graham, Catherine MacInnes, Anne Maclean, Iain GG Campbell, Adrienne Stewart, David and Marilyn Hanlon, and the Stornoway Trust for allowing the event to take place in the Castle Grounds.

WIIGA Committee member Lesley Graham presented the prizes for the first male and female runner to cross the line.

This year’s games takes place in Jersey on the June 27 to July 4. If you wish to find out more information about how you could support our Island athletes at this International sporting event please contact Iain GG Campbell on 01851 822782 or email iain.campbell@cne-siar.gov.uk

Finally WIIGA would like to say a big thank you to all the participants for contributing to a successful event.
