BBC Alba to screen SPL double header this weekend

BBC ALBA’s coverage from the Scottish Premier League continues this weekend with two ‘as-live’ matches as Dundee face Ross County and Dundee United host Hearts.

Coverage of the Dundee v Ross County match at Dens Park will be screened on Friday from 10.00pm. Dundee United v Hearts coverage will start on Saturday at 5.30pm. Both matches will be presented by Calum Macaulay with commentary courtesy of Derek MacKay.

Friday’s clash between Dundee and Ross County will see the two promoted sides meet for the third time in the SPL this season.

So far County have enjoyed the better record in head-to-head clashes after one win and a draw. Their first meeting in August at Dens Park saw a penalty from Staggies’ captain Richard Brittain give the Dingwall side a 1-0 win. The next encounter between the sides at Victoria Park in December saw a share of the spoils in a 1-1 draw, with Iain Davidson’s first half strike for the Dark Blues cancelled out by a Gary Glen goal for County in the 74th minute.

As well as the action on the pitch, Dundee midfielder Gary Harkins talks about this decision to move from Kilmarnock back to his old club as they battle to stay in the SPL. At Ross County, captain Richard Brittain reflects on his end of season switch to St Johnstone, his achievements thus far for County and his aspirations for the club between now and the end of the season.

Saturday’s Dundee United v Hearts match, meanwhile, sees the respective seventh and eighth placed sides battle it out for a vital three points as they aim for a top six spot.

Both of their previous league matches this season have been won by Hearts, with September’s Tannadice clash ending 3-0 in favour of the Jambos thanks to a double from Callum Paterson and a goal from Arvydas Novikovas. Their clash at Tynecastle in December was won 2-1 by the home side, with a Ryan Stevenson brace helping John McGlynn’s men to all three points despite a consolation goal from United’s Keith Watson.

BBC Alba also have a number of half-time features, with new Dundee United manager Jackie McNamara talking to Alex O’Henley ahead of his first SPL match after accepting the opportunity to manage United and move up to the top flight from Partick Thistle. Scotland defender Danny Wilson will also reflect on returning to Scottish football on loan at Hearts from Liverpool.
