Take a healthy sprinkling of the club’s most experienced pro’s and top senior players. Stir in a generous helping from the junior ranks. Blend together with a large dollop of festive cheer and goodwill, add some post-match mulled wine, mince pies and good banter and you have the recipe for Stornoway Rugby Club’s annual Boxing Day bash.
Miles of smiles filled Bayhead this week for the club’s annual Boxing Day match-up where a mixture of speedy bursts, crunching tackles and jovial fun created an almost carnival atmosphere amongst the number of players, both juniors and seniors, who braved the frost.
Club coach Angus Mackay commented: “Stornoway RFC kept up the tradition of their Boxing Day fixture with a fantastic mixture of youth and experience for a game of touch rugby, played in great humour with the juniors shining!
“After this warm up, the seniors progressed to a more physical encounter, with most trying not to land too heavily on the frosty ground below! Kenny ‘Peg’ was somewhat off the mark as referee, causing him to receive heavy fines later in the day! But an entertaining time was had by all, especially Ainsley and Donnie G, the latter winning the prize of worst Christmas hat and seeming to enjoy Kev O’Haras now infamous alcoholic tea. SYRFC would like to wish everyone all the very best for 2015.”
