Camanachd Leòdhais fall to defeat

Camanachd Leòdhais made their way to Inverarnie on Saturday to take on Boleskine. Both teams had chances but it was the home side that was able to convert theirs en route to a 3-0 victory.

Fourteen players made the journey to Smith Park.

The first chance of the match fell to Paul Duke, finding himself with only the keeper to beat within the first couple of minutes. The Lewis captain didn’t catch the shot as cleanly as he would like however and the keeper was able to divert it away from goal.

Although they were fortunate not to be a goal down, Boleskine started the match the better of the two sides.

They were controlling possession and playing with more aggression and intensity.

Neil Hope at half forward was their most dangerous player and it was he that opened the scoring on twelve minutes. Moments after crashing a drive against the post, Hope got on the end of a corner and whipped the ball into the goal.

Lewis almost replied instantaneously but Duke’s effort trickled past the post. Scott MacLeod then sliced wide before another gilt-edged chance went begging for Duke.

Whilst the best chances were falling to Lewis, Boleskine were still on top and punished Lewis for their profligacy in front of goal when Lewis Smith’s shot found the bottom left corner of the net after 25 minutes.

The superior fitness amongst the Lewis players began to show through as the half was drawing to a close.

Lewis began to take control of the game but a Duke shot palmed away by the keeper was the only good chance they could fashion before the half-time whistle. Lewis pinned down Boleskine for large parts of the second half as they looked to force their way back into the game but the hosts looked dangerous on the counter.

Just after the hour mark, Boleskine killed the game off with a third goal. Hope picked up the ball about thirty yards out and uncorked a shot that curled inside the post.
