Commonwealth baton will travel to Western Isles

The Commonwealth baton, which will travel internationally as part of the Queen’s Baton Relay, will visit the Western Isles as part of its 40 day tour of Scotland.

The baton, which will be created especially for Glasgow 2014, will begin its journey on 9th October at Buckingham Palace when Her Majesty The Queen will place Her message to the Commonwealth into the baton. From there, it will travel to Glasgow and begin its epic journey.

From the plains of Africa to the gleaming skyscrapers of Singapore; from the tiny tropical islands of St Lucia and Dominica to Canada’s snow-capped mountains the relay unites the two billion citizens of the Commonwealth in a celebration of sport,

Details for the Scottish leg of the relay will not be announced until next year but a spokesman for the Games has told the Gazette that the Western Isles will be included.
