FIFA recognition for Eriskay football pitch

A football pitch in the Western Isles has been recognised by FIFA as one of the most remarkable places in the world to play a match.

A match played on the field on the island of Eriskay has been recorded for screening at FIFA’s new museum in Switzerland, due to open next year.

The pitch has been described as “far from pristine” with fans of the island football team claiming that a rock once lay in part of the pitch, which the home side used to ‘play one-twos off’.
