The Bridge Club held its final competition of 2015 on Tuesday, the Tom Grassie Trophy.
There was a slightly smaller turnout as several members were away but there was still 14 of us and we welcomed back Caroline Briggs (up here on holiday for December) who was partnered with Rita MacDonald.
There was quite a battle for first place this week and it all rested on a couple of hands. Stewart MacDonald and NL MacDonald had another great evening but victory was snatched from them by the new ‘pair’ of Caroline and Rita. Between them they only had 5 bottoms but Rita and Caroline took 2 tops against them which was probably the deciding factor. There was only a match point in it with Caroline and Rita finishing with 63 points and Stewart and NL with 62 points.
In third place and the only pair to bid and make a slam this week were Norah MacDonald and Murdo Kennedy with 55 points. They made their slam on board 14, with the other 2 pairs settling for 3NT.
There will now be a festive break until 5th January 2016 which will be an open pairs competition.
