Bellshill could put themselves on the brink of promotion when they face rivals Blantyre Vics at Fullarton Park tonight (Wednesday).
Latest results have left Central First Division table toppers Bellshill in a strong position to regain their Super League status after a four-year absence.
While Bellshill were winning at Carluke, rivals Dunipace and Lesmahagow were both losing at home and Lesmahagow were then beaten again on Monday.
That means a win over Blantyre would end Lesmahagow’s hopes and leave Dunipace needing a miracle to catch Brian McGinty’s side.
But Blantyre are also looking more and more likely to secure one of the two promotion spots as they are ahead of both Lesmhagow and Dunipace with a number of games in hand.
Following tonight’s game Bellshill travel to face Lanark United in their penultimate game on Saturday.
If Bellshill do go up they will pass local rivals Thorniewood heading in the opposite direction following their defeat at Largs on Saturday which confirmed their relegation.
The Viewpark side’s next game is on Monday when they travel to face Maryhill in the third round of the Euroscot Engineering Central League Cup.
The Glasgow side knocked out Bellshill on penalties in the second round last Wednesday.
