Highland Amateur Cup begins

This weekend the Highland Amateur Cup competition gets underway with eight preliminary ties taking place on Saturday 3rd May.

This year’s competition is sponsored by Macleod Insurance Services and also includes teams from the Inverness and District FA, who have rejoined the Amateur ranks after a spell affiliated to the Welfare Football Association, (which debarred them entry in to the Highland and Islands premier knock out competition).

In total 69 teams have entered this season, which has resulted in a preliminary round being added.

The seven- times winners Pentland United kick off their campaign with a tricky tie away to fellow Caithness side Thurso Academicals.

Meanwhile last season’s beaten finalists, at Caledonian Stadium Inverness, Kirkwall Thorfinn have home advantage against Burray.

Ardersier will have home advantage against Skye and Lochalsh side Portree Juniors.
