Getting ready to tee off at Harris golf tournament

The Isle of Harris Golf Club is preparing for its busiest weekend of the year.

On Friday (August 19th) the club extends a warm welcome to its Life Members as 33 of them compete in the annual tournament.

Saturday, meanwhile, brings a field of 80 to the Scarista Links to compete for the famous Harris Tweed Jackets –surely the finest prizes in golf.

The designer and producer of the tweed, Donald John Mackay, of Luskentyre Tweeds, speaks proudly of the product, remarking: “It’s copyrighted to the club. The colours reflect the majesty of the surroundings of the course – the mountains, the sea, the sand, the land. They are all encapsulated in the tweed and make a beautiful jacket.”

Last year’s jacket winner in the Open scratch was Stevie Macintosh who is back to defend his trophy.

The Archie Macleod Trophy will also be hotly contested by the local players and is a handicap competition.
