Hebridean Cycle Challenge

Almost 120-cyclists fastened their helmets,got on their bikes and gobbled up miles of tarmac and scenic off road sections for the 2016 Hebridean Cycle Challenge.

The exciting event had something for everyone with it’s quarter of disciplines: road cycling, MTB, running and walking to raise funds for the nominated charity ‘The Andrew Macleod Memorial Fund’.

For the more competitive athletes there was the Hebridean Cycle Challenge, a road and mountain bike race with the option of running the off-road section.

Open to both solo competitors or in teams of two (changing over at Miavaig) the race began with a 33.6 mile road cycle from the Creed Enterprise Park outside Stornoway to Miavaig in North Harris.

Then switching to a 10.5 mile off road section through the mountains from Miavaig to Bowglas ending with a half mile road section to the finish at the Scaladale Centre, Ardvourlie, North Harris.

For those looking for a personal challenge there was the Hebridean Charity Cycle, a 21.3 miles non-competitive solo event catering for casual cyclists.
