Lewis athlete Alastair Dunlop competed in the World masters indoor athletics championship in Budapest, Hungary recently.
Despite his preparations being seriously hampered by injuries he won his preliminary heat of the 800m and was second in his semi-final to qualify for the final.
In the final he led, from the gun but was unable to hold off the attacks from behind and finished fifth in a time of 2.21 which was outside the indoor Scottish M60 record by one second.
In the 1500m he won his semi-final (there were three) this time breaking the Scottish record to qualify for the final as the eighth fastest.
This time he ran a better race finishing strongly again in fifth place to take another 14 seconds off the national record to run 4.39.
The Irishman who won this race ran 4.26 for a world record.
