THE festive period brought with it the discovery of dates and opponents that Lewis Camanachd are set face in the 2009 Strathdearn and Sutherland Cups.
As usual, the Hebrides' only senior shinty team will have to play their 'home' games in Ullapool, with the kind assistance of Lochbroom Camanachd – but who will they be up against?
In the Strathdearn Cup – the competition for North Reserve-level shinty teams – Lewis will have to face the might of Fort William second string on April 25 in Ullapool.
It's the second time in three years that the island team will have come up against the Lochaber giants and with players the quality of ex-Scotland captain Victor Smith, as well as Mike Slezas and Deek Cameron in their ranks, the Fort Seconds are renowned as being a match for many a club.
Lewis will certainly be in line for another tough fixture therefore, but in true island style will be looking to put in a strong performance to avoid the 11-0 scoreline of their last meeting two years ago.
In the Sutherland Cup – the national reserve-level cup – there will be an opportunity for Lewis to gain a first competitive victory against mainland opposition after they were drawn against Aberdour – another young club from near Inverkeithing, Fife.
