Last weekend saw members of the Western Isles Island Games Association Swimming Development squad compete away from the Western Isles for the first time.
The squad, whose competition costs were assisted by a Nat West Sports Development Program grant from the Island Games Association, travelled to the Buckie Open Meet.
Isla Budge, Ross Budge, Lucienne Doig, Matthew Hanlon and Haran Rabe all achieved multiple personal best times and Matthew returned home with a medal haul of one gold, one silver and four bronze medals.
Not a squad member but competing with them was Jamie Doig who also achieved a personal best time.
Ian Pritchard, WIIGA Swimming Team Manager, commented: “It was pleasing to see such a young and inexperienced group of swimmers perform so well. I look forward to them continuing to train hard and hopefully following in the footsteps of Kathryn Offer and Kara Hanlon who will be representing the Western Isles at this summers Island Games in Bermuda.”
“I would like to thank WIIGA and the staff at Ionad Spòrs Leòdhais for all their support over the last year.”
