Kerry MacPhee blew more than a minute off her best lap time at Cathkin Braes to win gold at the the first round of the Scottish XC Series.
The Hebridean athlete pedalled round the course in a speedy 15 and a half minutes, down from close to 17-minutes at the same time last year, to take first place in the elite race.
Also flying the flag for the Western Isles at Cathkin Braes this weekend was her sister Kirsty MacPhee and Western Isles Island Games Association cyclists John Neil Mitchell and Gavin Earons.
Mitchell was in hugely impressive form just a week on from driving his quad onto the podium at the Beachcross Championship he swapped four wheels for two to pedal home in third place in the 20-40 sport class race.
Kirsty MacPhee earned a phenomenal fifth place finish in the elite race while Earons, who is WIIGA Cycling team manager, was fourth in the super vets section.
It proved to be a tremendous weekend of mountain biking for each of our four riders in competitive action and Kerry, who was part of Scotland’s Commonwealth Games squad last summer, is thrilled with her times so far this season.
