The Lewis Car Club rally and drag race joined forces this year with a gravity defying stunt show by Kevin Carmichael for a day of motorsport magic for island petrol heads.
More than 50-cars took their place at Melbost Farm for the hugely popular quarter-mile drag race on Saturday evening in front of a large crowd whcih ignored the moody weather overhead.
The afternoon, spent at the rally track at Creed Park was lit up by the rider which gravity seems to have fortgotten - Kevin Carmichael.
The Ayrshireman thrilled onlookers with a daredevil series of motorbike tricks and stunts around the track while a pair of Mazda MX5’s joined the fun with the three drawing gasps of admiration and wonder from the crowd.
As always the serious side of Lewis Car Club’s events are fundraising with a whopping nine charities benefitting this time around.
A spokesperson for Lewis Car Club said: “We would like to thank everyone who helped make Saturdays events a success.
“Even though the weather wasn’t kind at times for the show at track. Lewis Car Club would like to congratulate Western Isles Classic Car club for bringing together a brilliant display of cars and bikes of all ages. The island really does have some lovely cars tucked away and its great to see them all together.
“The Drag race had the largest number of entrants ever with 50 racers entering, we also had the fastest recorded time set by a road car a 10.655 second pass by Donnie Campbell in his mental Subaru Impreza. Colin Millar still holds the fastest record time of 9.9 seconds in his Ford Angila.
“We must thank Kevin Carmichael and crew for putting on such spectacular stunt shows at both events. We still can’t believe that some of these stunts are even possible on both the cars and bikes. Such genuine people with a real passion for what they do. Also a big thanks to Northern Fords and Scottish Old Skool Escorts for making the trip to Stornoway once again this year.”
The next Lewis Car Club event is Rally Hebrides which is scheduled for Friday, August 14 andSaturday, August 15th.
