Playing for the Callanish Cup

Stornoway Bridge Club were guests at Callanish Visitor Centre on Saturday, August 10th for an evening of Bridge and what a great evening it was.

There were 21 players, two helpers and a lovely tray of sandwiches and cakes provided by Gregor MacLeod their host. They played an individual competition with 1 Rover and managed 23 boards. It’s always a challenge when there is a different partner for every board and despite that six of them managed to find a small slam on board 15.

Two of them also found a small slam on board 11 which takes some doing when they usually have no idea what their partners bid means! It was lots of fun and they wish to say a huge thanks to Murdo Morrison and Lyn Gormley for once again keeping them supplied with teas and coffees and allowing them to play while they tidied up around them.

Results: Thanks to Henk Graauwmans for happily claiming the booby prize. Someone has to come last! In third place was Liz Carmichael, (congratulations on your retirement Liz).

In second place was Ken MacDonald and in first place was Mike Norman who ended the night with a very impressive 60%. He was presented with the Callanish Cup (the first ever holder of this auspicious trophy).

The AGM will be held on September 3rd at 8pm at Stornoway Golf Club. Everyone is welcome to come along.
