The month of February sees the new rally season revving up both in the Isles and Nationally, with Lewis Car Club launching its new-for-2012 Navigational Rally Championship last Friday night, and Highland Car Club getting the Scottish Rally Championship under way a week on Saturday in Inverness.
Following their re-introduction of Navigational road Rallying last year, Lewis Car Club have mapped out a four event Championship for this year sponsored by MCL Storage Solutions, with competitors counting their three best results towards their final series points.
This ‘best three scores out of four’ allows for competitors who may be involved in organising any of the rounds not to be disadvantaged.
The first round then – named the Luna 9 Navigational Rally – took place last Friday night, based at the Stornoway Bowling Club premises on Bayhead Street, with Scrutineering carried out at Central Garage, Rigs Road.
With the first car set off at 10:01pm, a route which could be best described as technical took crews via four time controls – the entire route within a 15 mile radius of Stornoway!
The rally was won by Donald Riddell/Craig Morrison who incurred the lowest number of penalties in their Mitsubishi.
