This Saturday at Goathill sees a return of cup final action to the Junior League.
The under 18 Macleod Insurance Cup final takes place between Western Thistle and Ness.
Western Thistle have arrived at the final having overcome United over two close legs.
Ness emerged from a group including Point and Aths. Ness lost their first game to Point by four goals to three but a fantastic four-one win against Aths in Fivepenny reignited their chances and when the final match between Aths and Point finished six-one to Aths, it left all three teams on three points.
Ness and Aths had identical goal differences and goals scored but under the rules of the competition Ness qualified for the final as they won the head to head match against Aths.
Western Thistle have a number of players who have made an impression on the senior league. Gordon Campbell and Ally Macleod have both tasted success with West Side at senior level and Ally’s fine form has seen him make his debut for the Lewis Select this year in the midsummer tournament.
Kevin Macneil and Calum Macleod have both played a big part for Carloway this season and Calum recently got a vital double in Carloway’s match against West Side.
Ness also contain a number of palyers that have been involved in senior football this season and the regulars at Fivepenny are optimistic that the current bunch of juniors will bring success back to Ness.
A close match is anticipated and the game gives island football fans another chance to watch the next generation of players emerge.
