Heavy loss for Stornoway Rugby Club

The result was something of an inevitability but the performance was well below what the island side were capable of. Too many of the side looked to lack any real attitude and desire, perhaps still in party mode after recent weeks.

This week sees the island side welcome Aberdeen Wanderers to Bayhead and they will be looking to kickstart their survival campaign.

“It’s fair to say that we are battling to stay up this season,” said coach Angus Mackay.

He dismissed the possibility of relegation, stating that the quality within the squad is there, but that a lack of commitment to training is what’s costing them.

“There are times when we get the preparation right, training well and that positivity transfers on to the pitch on match day, but there has to be some form of continuity, it’s almost one step forward, two steps back.”

The side are running short of time and there needs to be action immediately.

“We need to start getting it right and that start with an honest performance this Saturday against Wanderers,” admitted Mackay.

Kick off is scheduled for 2pm and its hoped that the continued support from the island folk will be there to cheer the lads on.
