The third STS Singles League took place in the Sea Angling Club last Friday evening.

In Section A last year`s winner Murdo Alex Macleod won all his six games topping the section with 18 points and didn`t even concede a leg in the process.

Qualifying alongside him was Dave “Blondie” Macleod. Steven Williams finished third in the section and hit a 136 checkout in one of his games and that turned out to be the highest checkout of the tournament.

Section B had Jim O`Donnell win the section but the battle for second place went to the wire with Don Macleod and Ted Bainbridge both finishing on ten points but Don scraped through with a better leg difference.

Rory Ferguson and Murdo Macleod qualified from Section C. Murdo had a 135 finish in his 3 – 0 victory over Danny Hughes.

In Section D, Jamie Reid and Innes Maclean eased into the quarter finals finishing first and second. Jamie hit two 180s and had a thirteen dart leg in his win over Gordon Mop Macdonald.

Innes also hit a couple of 180s, one of these was against his brother Ross!

Saturday afternoon hearalded the quarter finals and first up was Rory Ferguson 7 – 0 demolition of Don Macleod, Rory also managed a 180 in one of the legs. In the next game it was the same scoreline but this time Dave Blondie took the brunt of Jamie`s high scoring and good finishing.

The third quarter final produced another great match between Innes and Murdo Alex. Young Innes went into a 2 – 1 lead but two 180s and great finishing on the doubles gave Murdo Alex a 7 – 2 win.

The last quarter final was delayed for a short time due to Jim O`Donnell being in Harris. His opponent Murdo Macleod eventually claimed a 7 – 4 victory with some impressive darts.

Murdo carried that form into the semi-final with a ruthless 7 – 2 victory over Jamie Reid. In the last leg Murdo checked out a 117 finish.

In the other semi-final it was a repeat of last year`s semi but this year Murdo Alex gave Rory no chance. He cruised to a 7 – 1 win to leave Rory a losing semi-finalist for the second year running.

This year`s STS single`s final was a battle of the two Murdos. For wee Murdo this was his first STS final, but for Murdo Alex this was his second consecutive final having won the trophy last year.

In this best of 17 leg game, wee Murdo won the first leg with a 93 check out.

The next went to Murdo Alex with a 74 finish. Then Murdo Alex won four legs on the bounce to lead 5 – 1. Wee Murdo clawed back the last two legs to go into the ten minute break 5 – 3 down.

After the interval both players won a leg each but in the eleventh leg wee Murdo`s world came crashing down as he burst a 120 hitting the two treble 20s. He never recovered from that mistake.

Murdo Alex cashed in to win his second successive STS Singles Final.

Big thanks to the Sea Angling Club for organising food etc over the two days. Also to STS Taxis (704444) for continued sponsorship of the event.
