SRAC open graded meet

The starter's pistol will fill the skies above Stornoway this Saturday as the Western Isles local track and field season is set off with a bang.

Well in excess of 100 young athletes from aged eight through to 18 are expected to the gathering at the running track in Stornoway for SRAC’s May Open Graded Athletics Meeting.

Last year athletes competed from the North Uist and South Uist and Eriskay Athletics Clubs, as well as the Westside Runners and those Stornoway Running and Athletics Club, as well as a number of athletes currently without clubs, so there was a real buzz at the Smith avenue track.

The OGM is due to begin at around 10:45am with the hurdles event before the day progresses through age groups and distances on the track.

Mixed relays follow later in the day while on the field there will be long jump, high jump and triple jump, discus throwing, shot pit, and javelin.
