Stornoway Judo Club pair shine

Two member's of Stornoway's Judo Club were in competitive action recently as they fought in the Granite City Open in Aberdeen.

Ryan Smith and Natasha Trew, both members of George Kerr’s Stornoway Judo Club, took on some experience opponents in the important event. Ryan was first into action as he competed in the men’s under 81kg category. He won his first match via ippon within 20 seconds. His second fight was for the gold medal and unfortunately he was thrown for ippon. He came away with a silver medal and 10 points towards his black belt.

Natasha Tew fought in the women’s under 57kg category. The first match was against an opponent that she lost to twice previously but this time Natasha won via ippon. Her second match was against the British school games champion which she lost via hold down.

Her third match was won with two throws. The final match was unfortunately lost due to a submission. These two wins gave Natasha the bronze medal and 20 points towards her black belt.
