Swim Western Isles Time Trials sparks gold rush

It's been a busy year for Swim Western Isles with swimmers attending meets around the country and numerous personal bests and club records have been broken.

A number of club volunteers, coaches and committee members recently took part in time keeping and meet manager training in Stornoway. The Club President Robert Doig completed his Chief Timekeeper training.

They were ably assisted with their learning by Anne and Brian Hendry from North District Scottish Swimming

The training was put into practise when time trials were held in Stornoway at the beginning of the month where local swimmers embraced the chance to improve their times, and many did.

Isla MacDonald one of our younger swimmers would normally have joined us but she was swimming at the Elgin Mini meet that weekend.

Isla collected all four gold medals for her age group and secured personal bests in all her swims in Elgin.

If you’re interested in joining the club then introductory sessions will be held shortly, the team can be contacted on [email protected], or names can be added to a list held at reception in the Sports Centre in Stornoway.

The club is for swimmers aged 8 or over, although exceptions have been made for younger more able swimmers.

Swim Western Isles swimmers are indebted to their coaches for all their hard work in helping them improve, this has been demonstrated by times and results achieved at meets locally and on the mainland.
