Taking on the might of Barrathon

Almost 250 runners pulled on their trainers for the annual Barrathon half marathon which sees runners, keen and otherwise, complete a clockwise route around the island.

Picking up a stack of the top prizes on the day were Hunters Bog Trotters with both first male and first female coming from the club and the first three team prizes also going to HBT. HBT’s Ray Ward crossed the finishing line first in 1:18:28, with HBT’s Eilis McKechanie coming in as the first female in 1:27:12. The first, second, and third team prizes went to HBT Had Better Times, HBT Hunky Barra Trio, and HBT Heb Three. First local was Kenny McIntosh in 1:46:22, and the first local female was Mary Catherine Macdougall in 1:52:12.

The Fun Run saw Alasdair Elder finish first again (15:37) and match the course record that he set last year.

The Junior Fun Run had two records broken: the number of runners and the course record.

There were 65 runners with 15 of them under 5. The youngest were allowed a ‘little’ help from their mums and dads. Cameron Galbraith set a new course record (4:03) shaving a couple of seconds off the previous record that had stood for three-years.
