Runners in this year’s Barrathon will have The Co-operative to thank for liquid refreshment while they’re on the island’s testing half marathon course.
The Co-operative Membership’s Northern Scotland and Islands Area Committee is sponsoring the half marathon and fun run, and the community retailer’s Castlebay food store is donating 500 bottles of water for the 29 June event.
Barrathon organiser Katie MacNeill collected the bottles, of The Co-operative’s own-brand Fairbourne Springs water, when she visited The Co-operative Food store.
The Co-operative is sponsoring the event, and as well as the water, for water stations along the route, is donating fruit including Fairtrade bananas for participants.
Ryan Anderson, Manager of The Co-operative Food store in Castlebay, said: “Our store plays an important role at the heart of the Barra community, and we are delighted The Co-operative is able to help the Barrathon by donating vital supplies for competitors. We’re sure this year’s Barrathon will be a huge success.”
The Co-operative has also supported the Stornoway Half Marathon, 10K and Family Fun Run, and the Benbecula Half Marathon.
