They are off and rolling in the new outdoor bowling season

The first competition to start the new bowling season was the Sime Four Bowls Pairs, with the morning starting of showers the Stornoway Bowling Club members were lucky when the sun came out in afternoon to lift everyone’s spirits.

There were 12 pairs taking part with two sections of six pairs with each team playing five games before a semi and a final with all games played over six ends.

In section A the team finishing in the top spot was Isabel Linklater and Duncan Macmillan who won four games and had a draw in the other, in second place was the team of Anna Macleod and Angus Murray who won three games but had a better shots difference than the third placed team.

In section B the team of Dan Macmillan and Rob Macdonald finished in top spot after winning four games with Malcom Macleod and Alex Dan Campbell also winning four games in second place due to shots difference.

In the first semi between Anna and Angus against Dan and Rob it was Anna and Angus who got off to a flying start taking seven shots in the first two ends.

Rob and Dan then scored a single in the third end with Anna and Angus taking a single in the fourth.

Rob and Dan hit back with four shots in the fifth to close the gap, and at one point in the last end Rob and Dan were lying three shots before Angus managed to score a single to win nine shots to five.

The other semi was between Malky and Alex Dan against Isabel and Duncan.

The first two ends were won with Isabel and Duncan taking three shots with Alex Dan and Malky taking a single in the third, with a single in fourth going to Isabel and Duncan.

Alex Dan and Malky scored a single in the fifth, with Isabel and Duncan taking a single in the last end to win by five shots to two.

In the final it was Anna and Angus who took the first end with a single shot, and also another single shot in the second.

Isabel and Duncan then scored two shots in the third to level the score, but Anna and Angus scored a single in the fourth, with Isabel and Duncan taking two shots in the fifth.

This set up an interesting last end with Isabel and Duncan lying two shots and Angus left with having to play a weighted shot, although he hit the target the jack went to Isabel and Duncan bowls to score another three shots to win seven shots to three.

Members are reminded that there are entry sheets in the clubhouse for various competitions, so if you wish to enter any of the competitions get along and add your name to the sheets.
