The date for this year’s Co-operative Stornoway Half Marathon, 10K and Fun Run has been set for Saturday, May 28th and begins at 10am.

The event, organised by Stornoway Running and Athletics Club is one of the highlights of the island’s sporting calender and last year saw record numbers taking part.

With the choice of three races there is a distance to suit any runner. Those who find 13.1 miles too daunting a prospect, or simply prefer a shorter, faster race can enter the 10K which is becoming a very popular distance on the island, as the successful events in Harris, Berneray, the west side and Ness have shown.

The 10K is also an ideal distance for those who have completed one of the Islands 5K runs and are looking for their next challenge. The Fun Run always attracts a good crowd of the young and young at heart!

The half marathon starts at 10am from Lews Castle College and will follow the usual route, the first half around the town before entering the Castle Grounds for the second part of the race.

The 10K starts at 11am just beyond Cuddy Point and follows the low road to the golf club before heading up to the castle where it joins the half marathon route to the finish. The Fun Run will start at 10.15am from the Golf club car park.

There are medals and goody bags for all finishers and awards for winners and runners-up in each category. There is also a ceilidh on the Saturday evening in the Golf Club featuring the excellent Iain Angus Ceilidh Band.

Tickets cost £5 and will be available at race registration on the Friday evening. There is also a buffet for all runners at the prize-giving in the Bridge Centre after the races.
