Wednesday is D-Day for local shinty

Camanachd Leòdhais will find out this Wednesday night if they will be given permission to compete in the national Shinty leagues on a permanent basis from next season.

The competitions committee of the sport’s governing body made a previous recommendation that the Outer Hebrides’ senior shinty club was retained, subject to consultation with mainland clubs and the referees association.

It is understood that this consultation has been completed successfully, with mainland opponents and officials fulsome in their praise of the Leòdhasaich. and therefore the Board of Directors will meet on Wednesday 7th December to decide on retention.

Lewis fulfilled every game home and away with a full squad of 15 (at least) as well as having an excellent facility at Shawbost School.

They scored a respectable amount of points and goals, with a win against Ardnamurchan and a draw against Strathglass, as well as winning the HebCelt Cup and Mod Cup against non-league Uist.

They also won a Marine Harvest Fair Play Award and were finalists for the Sunday Mail/SportScotland Local Club of the Year.

You will be able to read all about the Camanachd Association’s decision in next week’s Gazette (15th December) but updates will also be available on this website.
