West Side 10K and 5K draws big numbers

Shawbost was besieged with runners, both the keen and the curious, for the annual West Side 10K and 5K runs.

Unseasonably mild September weather meant both races were well turned out although the strong headwind made the return on the 10K loop more than a little testing.

The top three in the 10K run (pictured top right) were visiting runner Florent Schaal first, Norman Ferguson in second and Angus Murray crossed the line in third.

In the 5K, (top three pictured below) youth runner Aodhan Finnegan left his elder rivals trailing in his dust as he finished in first place.

He was followed in second by Martin Stewart with Allan Morrison in third.

Also pictured are two young keen runners who bounded across the line int he 5K with purposeful sprint finishes.

At the bottom of the page is a shot of all the competitors from both races together outside the Shawbost Community Centre before the races.
